| Q) Should I take Calcium with protein supplements? A) Yes, even for people who lift weights. A high protein diet with everything equal will cause calcium to be released from our skeletal reservoir. Adequate calcium intake can prevent bone loss and even increase bone density. 800-1000mg from supplements and diet daily is highly recommended. It is a long term thing. Q) What do you think of HMB? A) I personally tried it before many years ago and gave it a thumb down. I tried 1.5g twice daily at that time and it cost me $120 dollars a month. Today the price of HMB was a lot cheaper than it used to and I decided to try it again. This time I take 500mg every 2 hours when I am awake. I find that it improves my recovery. Q) There are so many anti-oxidants which one should I really take? A) I recommend taking a good multi vitamin as the base of the stack. If budget allows, add some vitamin C and E when you knew you are exposed to more free radicals like eating lots of BBQ or fried food or exposed to lots of smokey/ polluted air, even one who exercise intensely regularly will need more anti-oxidants. Cycle every month a special anti-oxidants herb like Silymarin or other herbs like Ginkgo or Bilberry etc is a good idea. Alpha Lipoic acid is a supplement worth mentioning as it is capable of neutralising many different types of anti-oxidants and has been should to be effective in improving many diseased conditions linked to excessive free radical generation in the body. 200-400mg daily added to the stack is a great idea. Q) Is timed-released melatonin better than regular ones? A) I believe timed released melatonin is better than regular ones. My customers feedback that they do not wake up in the middle of the night when taking the timed -released version as opposed to the regular version. I also thinklthat the 1mg timed released version is far more natural than the 3mg regular version as the latter tend to raise the melatonin level in the blood far higher than normal. |
