| Q) How does DHA improve Brain Function? A) I am all excited to reveal that DHA was found to stimulate the production of Phosphatidyl Serine (PS) in some studies. PS is one of the most expensive supplement ingredient I know of that is found to improve memory and information transfer between nerve cells. I will give a full update after I review more scientific papers. Q) What is the difference between CLA and Lean Green in terms of their fat burning effect? A) CLA has been shown to repartition body composition in several types of animals. In fact, it has been added to animal feedings to result in more lean meat production. Lean Green on the other hand has better scientific evidence in human subjects. The active ingredients in Lean Green has been shown to increase thermogenesis (the conversion of calories to heat) and block fat synthesis among many other health benefits. Q) I have read your new release on the new fish oil you. I have been taking the regular fish oil for years and I would like to know why should I pay double the prices for your version since I can get 300caps of the regular ones at around $38? I know you won't have the guts to publish my email in your Q and A column. A) First let me give you some background on the fish oil you are currently taking. It is the health food grade version, which typically contain 180mg of EPA and 120mg of DHA within 1g of fat in a 1000mg softgel. That is only 30% Omega 3. This type of fish oil has not been molecular distilled long enough to remove the potential contaminants (e.g. PCB act like as xenoestrogen, heavy metal like lead and mercury). These contaminants once introduce into our body will stay there and accumulate over time. Therefore, it make sense to take pharmaceutical fish oil which is more than 60% Omega 3 and contain 100 times less potential contaminants. Max DHA which I am marketing have further advantage over regular fish oil such that it has little EPA. EPA acts as a blood thinner which increase the time needed for the blood to clot, a potentially dangerous effect of regular fish oil. Based on my research on the recent literature, DHA is by far the most superior Omega 3, it is retained in the body longer, it has practically no toxicity, there are many research that show the a mere 1.5g of DHA per day will significantly help us to fight stress and keeping our Central Nervous System functioning at tip top condition (possibly very beneficial to bodybuilders and practically any urban dwellers). Haha, this is for you- bodybuilders, "think of regular fish oil as pro-hormones and DHA as testosterone". Although EPA can be converted to DHA, our body have very low of such activity (almost zero) that we need preformed DHA to function at our best. DHA can also be easily converted to EPA when our body needs it. Basically what I am trying to say is DHA is the King of Omega 3! Last but not least is the if you get regular fish oil you pay 23 cents for 250mg of DHA (based on 300 caps for SGD$33), but if you buy Max DHA, you pay only 20 cents (based on 180 caps for SGD$36). Let not forget that Max DHA contain 100 times less potential contaminants and is phamaceutical grade! To read more about my research on DHA, click on the picture of Max DHA on the left. Q) Why is that the Whey you promote have only 18g per serving versus those that have 23g per serving? Why must your whey be so expensive, are you trying to rip people off? A) Do the math. ISS Research Complete Whey have 18g of Whey protein in just 22g of powder. That is a whopping 82% of the highest quality whey by weight because of its superior taste and it mixed damn well even in very cold water (concentrate or isolate is much less important to me). But if you need to have more protein in your drink, and have a even more tasty Whey, you can try mixing 1 and a half scoop of ISS Compete Whey . That will give you 27g of Whey protein in an extra flavourful drink. But I really think 1 scoop will be flavourful enough. 1 and a half scoop will be really a luxury for your taste buds. * Be sure to check out our new Inner Armour Whey too. Taste fantastic and mix well! Q) I am taking your Creatine and always forget to take it like what you recommended- once with breakfast and once after training (I go to the gym 3-4 time a week) with some carbo. If I miss taking it a day, will it affect the benefits I am getting? Any solution? A) Try not to miss taking Creatine everyday. If what I recommend is too hard to follow, try this. Take one scoop of Creatine with breakfast daily. Make it a point to add a scoop of Creatine to your breakfast beverage (must not be hot in temperature) every morning. Breakfast is the best time to take supplement because is easier to make them a habit. Just take Creatine once a day and within 30 days your muscles will be fully saturated with Creatine and that derived the maximum benefits to increase your ability to do more reps and muscular size. Q) Why do you recommend supplements, aren't natural food the best? A) This is definitely a very controversial question. Every readers know we promote supplements. But we make sure what are promoted are quality supplements of great value (inclusive of the price we sell) and my consumers are properly educated on how to use them safely and effectively. In my humble opinion, supplements are very helpful and convenient when properly used. They make eating a healthy bodybuilding lifestyle a snap. For example a good whey protein will just contain 1-2 grams of fat and with a dose of very clean and high biological protein. Our strategy is to take lesser of the higher fat regular food like those sold outside (I know hawker food tastes delicious) and take a serve of ISS or Inner Armour Whey protein (I think they are undenatured, taste and smell fantastic and very easy to mix) to complement the meal. When combined with a sensible exercise program (which need not kill a male gorilla), together they improve the physical appearance and well being of the person in a matters of a few weeks. For breakfast, I usually add a serve of ISS Whey with 10 tablespoons of instant oats (it take me 5 minutes to prepare it and another 5 minutes to enjoy it ). I am also in favour of adding a good Omega 3 supplement, some vitamins and minerals that are high in Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Folic Acid Vitamin E and C (like those we offer here) in the diet. The best thing is supplements price are no longer as expensive as before, they are very affordable nowadays. Q) I seem to experience less muscle soreness after I took the Creatine purchased from you? Any reason why? A) I do remember reading a study that found that Creatine can act as a buffer in muscle to neutralise lactic acid accumulation. Maybe that's why. Q) What do you recommend are the best bodybuilding food? A) For carbo, oats, weetbix, wholemeal bread, potatoes, sweet potatoes. For protein, flat fish, tuna, chicken breast, eggs, whey and micellar casein powders. For fat, it is important to take enough of the Omega 3 series like Flax and fish oil, omega 6 are commonly found in the food we regularly consumed. Q) What supplements are you using yourself currently? A) I am using Complete Whey, Micellar Matrix, Complete V/M and flaxseed Oil. Q) I hate to eat chicken breast, if I take off the skin in chicken thigh can I use it to substitute skinless chicken breast? I love chicken meat very much. A) 100g of skinless chicken drumstick have 5.5g of fat versus 100g of skinless chicken breast have just 2.3g of fat. It does make a difference if you are really counting your fat and calories intake. Chicken drumstick lean meat do have more fat than the lean meat from chicken breast because it has a higher content of intramuscular fat. Q) How much whey protein should I consume each meal? Is it better to consume 1 scoop each time or 2 scoops at 1 go? A) Most of the time, 1 scoop at one go is sufficient. Personally, I like to break my protein supplements intake into smaller portions and take them several times a day. Our bodies utilised smaller amount more effectively. I use 1 scoop of Complete Whey Power with 10 tablespoons of instant oats for my breakfast. After my workout, I will take one scoop again with 4 pieces of Weetbix. Before sleep I have a scoop of Micellar Matrix. I take these in conjunction with my regular meals. In total I take in about 150g of protein on my high protein days and 100g of protein on my low protein days. Q) After I drank a glass of milk, I always feel my stomach bloated and have lots of gas, after that I sometimes have diarrhea? My doctor said that this due to lactose intolerance, does that mean I cannot take milk at all? A) I won't advice you to avoid dairy products completely since you are not allergic to it. Dairy products are a wonderful source of calcium and protein. It is probably not a good idea for you to consume one whole glass of milk at one go. Instead take half a glass, also choose whole milk instead of skimmed/or low fat milk. Reasons are because 1)the fat in whole milk will allow milk to stay in the stomach longer to give more time for the limited lactase in your body to breakdown the lactose, 2) the lactose in half a glass of milk (5-6g) is usually okay for majority of Asian to digest comfortably. From my personal experience it is better to continue to consume milk in smaller amount rather than avoiding it altogether so that the lactase in your body remains. In fact, most of the people I know reported better tolerance to milk with some "practice". Q) What is the difference between Creatine Monohydrate, Citrate and Pyruvate? Which type is best? A) They are all compounds of Creatine. Almost all if not all studies that has proven the ergogenic effects of Creatine were done on Creatine Monohydrate. I personally used Creatine Monohydrate. Despite of all the claims that Creatine Monohydrate is "imperfect", it is the most researched-proven natural performance enhancers together with Caffeine and Bicarbonate. Q) Is it okay to take protein with carbohydrate? I read that they should not be combined together. A) The concept of food combination is erroneous. It came from some pioneers in "food hygiene" who are not trained in nutritional science. If they have understood a bit more about the science of human digestive physiology, they would have know that our digestive system is designed to digest both carbohydrates and protein at the same time. Protein and carbohydrate are also found simultaneously in many food we commonly eat. Q) Is it true that if I want to lose body fat I should not eat after 6pm? A) The food and calories that are taken throughout the day should be taken into account. I recommend that if one is trying to lose body fat, he/she should take smaller, lower calories, lower fat meals throughout the day. I do not think fasting after 6pm will be more effective. In fact, fasting will slow down the metabolic rate which is counter productive in the fat burning process. Q) I have to eat at hawker centre at least once a day but I am trying to reduce body fat? Any tips? A) I personally enjoyed the taste of many food at hawker centres. But, I make it a point to eat just a small serving and balanced it with my supplements that are low in sodium and fat. I also take at least 2 servings of fruits daily, usually more. |
